What Are Brick Slips? How to Create a Brick Effect Wall

Rate this post

Just exactly what are brick slips? For many people this question must be answered before they settle on the idea of brick slip installation for their property.

We understand the basics of brick slips – that they give our wall the appearance of it being a brick wall without it actually being one, but what are the mechanics behind the production of brick slip tiles?

What Are Brick Slips?

Brick slips are brick tiles that are fitted onto walls so that your property will receive a brick effect wall.

Businesses such as Primark, Topshop and McDonald’s have chosen brick slip installation as a way to give their shops and restaurants a more down to Earth and relaxed appearance and to make it more eye-catching for their customers.

This is also a popular alternative that many coffee shops and cafes are installing, instead of painting or pasting wallpaper on their walls.

How Are Brick Slips Made?

There are two different ways of making brick slips.

The first way to produce brick wall tiles is through the use of clay. The clay is cut down to size, fired and then baked – like usual bricks would be in the production process – to give it, its brick like effect.

After that, the brick face tile is ready to be fitted onto walls. This method of producing brick tiles for walls is preferred for people who want brick wall panels to be of a matching colour, size, or who are trying to stick to a budget when deciding on decor.

Meanwhile, the second way in which brick slip tiles can be made, is through cutting down an actual brick.

Many people prefer this style of brick slips as they are much more realistic unlike clay produced brick slips, along with the fact that the walls will receive a much more unique touch.

The disadvantage of choosing this option, is that it is more expensive in comparison to the clay brick slips, especially if you choose reclaimed brick slips.

What are Reclaimed Brick Slips?

Reclaimed brick tiles are bricks that had been installed on old buildings, that when taken down the bricks get cut down to size, ready to be used for brick slip installation.

The bricks, since they had been in use, have aged over the years and therefore have a much more realistic appearance. Each brick is unique and different to the other.

Advantages of Brick Slips

There are many advantages of installing brick slips.

Not only does installing bespoke brick slips mean that your property will receive a unique appearance, but these wall tiles are much more easier to install compared to having a brick wall built in your house.

Brick Slip Wall

Fitting brick slips can be an interesting and creative experience. From brick feature walls to brick slips for fireplaces or whitewashed brick slips,  you can choose where you want the wall brick tiles fitted and the design in which they are fitted.

You don’t have to have a whole brick tile wall if that isn’t the look you are after, it could just be a section of brickwork on your wall.
